Contextual Overview:
The twin installations “Within, the Future of AI” were developed as show-stoppers for the Museum of the Future exhibition at the 2018 World Government Summit in Dubai. The principal focus of the experience presented the audience with a speculative near-future history of the evolution of artificial intelligence. As the final stop on that journey, “Within” was designed to illustrate the divergence of artificial intelligence through novel conceptions and display technologies.
The journey culminated with the encounter of HIBA, a 2050 hybrid intelligence born out of a synergy between humans and super-intelligence. HIBA was manifested as a 6-meter-wide interlay of motor-propelled motion and digital displays assembled in the first-ever digital-kinetic display of its kind.

Technological Overview:
The “Within” installations emerged from extensive research in artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep-learning algorithms, along with a thorough consideration of the ethical and moral implications of creating an artificially sentient entity. Vivid storytelling and exciting digital content were integrated into unique technological displays, the likes of which audiences had never before experienced.
Bringing HIBA to life demanded a monumental experience, for which we developed the first digital-kinetic display of its kind. Motors propelled a 6-meter-wide assembly of LED displays, creating a large 3D screen. In addition to featuring digital manifestations of the hybrid intelligence entity HIBA, the installation transposed a user’s physical presence and facial features onto a massive kinetic screen. The “Within” installations also involved combining existing technologies such as transparent displays, circular screens, robotic arms and magnetic levitation with an unprecedented interaction mechanism powered by custom software - thereby allowing visitors to communicate with many versions of AI.
